【Original form】 ① White horse bone

[Properties] The dry branches are dark gray with longitudinal cracks on the surface, and the cork often peels off. The young branches are light gray, with membranous stipules around the nodes. The flowers are clustered at the top of the branches. The calyx is grayish white, 5-lobed, and membranous. The branches are slightly hard and the broken surface is fibrous. Most of the leaves fall off, with only a few remaining. They are green-yellow, thin and leathery, curled and uneven, brittle and easy to break. Produced in Guangxi, Guangdong, Sichuan, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and other places.

[Chemical composition] The whole plant of Serissa serrata contains glycosides and tannins.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, pungent, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind, promote dampness removal, clear away heat and detoxify. Treat rheumatism, low back and leg pain, dysentery, edema, red and swollen eyes, sore throat, toothache, leucorrhea in women, carbuncle, and scrofula.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decocted in water, 3-5 qian (1-2 liang for fresh ones). For external use: burn the ashes and apply the juice, boil the water and wash the remaining, then mash and apply.
