Jujube bark is a famous traditional and commonly used Chinese medicinal material in my country with a long history of application. Today we will learn about the bark of the date tree.

[Source] It is the bark of the jujube plant of the Rhamnaceae family. It can be harvested all year round, but spring is the best time to harvest. Use a crescent-shaped sickle to scrape the old bark from the trunk of the jujube tree and dry it in the sun.

[Pharmacological action] When mice were gavage-administered with alcohol extract of jujube bark (unidentified species), it had a significant expectorant effect (phenol red method) but a mild antitussive effect; however, if injected intraperitoneally, it had an antitussive effect (ammonia spray-induced cough method).
