[Original morphology] Annual or perennial parasitic herb, 10 to 15 cm high. The stem is spherical, thick and hypertrophic, irregularly divided, light yellowish brown, with light white star-shaped protrusions; the flower stem is thick and upright, red, emerging from the top of the tuber, 8 to 12 cm high and 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter. The leaves are spirally alternate, attached to the flower stems, degenerate, scaly, ovate, broad ovate or narrow ovate, and orange-yellow. The flowers are unisexual, dioecious, and terminal spike inflorescences; the flowers are small, countless, dark red, and densely distributed on the surface of the axis of the inflorescence; the male flowers have 4 to 6 deeply divided perianth petals, and 4 to 6 stamens.
