[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Guangxi purple hemp, a plant of the Urticaceae family.

【Original form】 Shrub, 1-3m high. Except for the petioles, the back of the stipules and the inflorescence which are sparsely covered with very fine rough hairs, the rest are glabrous; the twigs are mostly tortuous, black with a slight luster, and have small lenticels. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 0.5-2cm long; stipules are lanceolate, with sparsely coarse hairs on the midrib on the back; leaf blades are hard and papery, narrowly elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, 2-11cm long, 1-4cm wide, with obtuse to short-caudal acuminate tips, bases are broadly cuneate or nearly rounded, dark green or bluish green above, green or light bluish green below, smooth on both sides; 3 basal veins. The female inflorescence grows in the leaf axils, often triply dichotomously branched, and the umbels are usually composed of 3-5 flowers. Male flowers are sessile, with 3 tepals and slightly coarse hairs on the outside; 3 stamens; the reduced pistil is rod-shaped. The female flowers are conical, swollen at the base and gradually narrow at the top. The fruit is drupe-like, conical, with persistent perianth sparsely covered with fine hairs; the fleshy receptacle is cup-shaped, fleshy, and surrounds the middle and lower part of the fruit. The flowering period is from October to March of the following year, and the fruiting period is from May to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in sparse limestone forests or shrubs at an altitude of about 800m.

【Functions and indications】 Bone setting and wound healing; detoxification and swelling reduction. Main fracture; sores, scabies and ringworms

[Usage and Dosage] Oral use: decoction: 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or decoct it into a water solution for fumigation and washing.
