[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Phalaenopsis, a plant of the Orchidaceae family.

[Original morphology] Phalaenopsis is a perennial herb with many aerial roots in clusters; the aerial roots are flat like ribbons, with many wart-like protrusions on the surface. The stem is short, 1-1.5cm long. The leaves are clustered; the leaves are oblong, about 4 cm long and 2 cm wide, with short sheaths at the base and obvious joints; the leaves fall off during flowering, leaving only 1-2 leaves. The raceme is sometimes branched, 2-20 cm long, with sparse flowers; the bracts are ovate and short; the pedicels connected to the ovary are long and flat. The flowers are pink or lavender; sepals are elliptical, 1-2cm long; petals are obovate cuneate, nearly as long as sepals; lip is purple, 3-lobed, nearly cross-shaped, lateral lobes are oblong, middle lobe is nearly obovate, with folds in the center, and each with a 2-pronged callus at the base. Flowering period is May-June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: epiphytic on trees and rock walls in forests at an altitude of 1300-1800m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; slightly spicy; warm

【Functions and indications】 Soothes wind and relieves exterior symptoms; relaxes muscles and tendons and activates collaterals; sets bones and relieves pain. Mainly used for cold and fever; headache; rheumatic pain; traumatic injury; fracture

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
