[Source] Medicinal material source: The root or root bark of Vitis flexuosa Thunb. of the grape family.

[Original form] Kudzu vine is a woody vine. The branches are slender, and the young branches have grayish-white hairs; the tendrils are opposite to the leaves and branched in a dichotomous manner. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are 3-7cm long and covered with spider-like soft hairs; leaf blades are broadly ovate or triangular-ovate, 3.5-11cm long, 2.5-9.5cm wide, acuminate at the apex, broadly cordate or nearly truncated at the base, with unequal wavy teeth on the margin, glabrous above, more or less hairy below, with soft hairs on the main veins and vein axils. Flowers are heterogamous, with slender panicles 6-12cm long, opposite leaves, and white filamentous hairs on the axis of the inflorescence; flowers are small, 2mm in diameter, male flowers are yellow-green, with bracts under the pedicels; calyx is disc-shaped; petals are 5, the tips are glued together into a cap and fall off; stamens are 5; the reduced ovary is buried in the disk; bisexual flowers have short stigmas; the disk is 5-6-lobed; the stamens are the same length as the ovary. The berries are spherical, 6-8mm in diameter, and purple-black when ripe. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from May to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in mountain shrubs below 2500m above sea level.

【Functions and indications】 It can eliminate dampness and reduce jaundice; promote blood circulation and dredge meridians; detoxify and reduce swelling. Mainly used for icteric hepatitis; rheumatic pain; traumatic injury; carbuncle

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
