【Other name】 Guangteng root

[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Pericampylusglaucus (Lam.) Merr., a plant of the Menispermaceae family.

[Original form] Slender round vine climbing woody vine, up to 10m long. The branches are often slender and drooping, the young branches are covered with yellow soft hairs, the old branches become hairless, purple-brown, and have longitudinal stripes. The petiole is slightly shorter than the leaf blade and is hairy; the leaf blade is papery to thinly leathery, triangular ovate to triangular nearly round, 3.5-10cm long and wide, obtuse at the apex with a small tip, nearly truncate to cordate at the base, hairy on both sides when young, nearly hairless or hairy only on the veins when old, with usually 5 palmate veins. The inflorescence is often corymbose, axillary, solitary or in clusters of 2-3, and hairy; the flowers are small, unisexual and dioecious; there are 9 sepals in 3 whorls, the outer whorl is narrower, the inner whorl is broadly spoon-shaped, about 1.5mm long; there are 6 petals; the male flower has 6 stamens, which are aggregated together; the female flower has 3 carpels and the stigma is deeply lobed into 2 parts. The drupe is red or purple, with a bony endocarp that is broadly obovate, very flat, 5-6mm in diameter, and short conical protrusions on both sides of the back. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is June-July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in valley ditches, roadsides, sparse and dense forests on mountains.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; neutral

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; relieves sore throat; relieves cough. Mainly used for sores, carbuncle, swelling and pain; sore throat; cough; poisonous snake bites

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: appropriate amount, fresh root bark, mash and apply.
