[Source] It is the rhizome of Dioscorea hypoglauca Palibin, a plant of the Dioscoreaceae family. Dig up the rhizomes in autumn and winter, remove the fibrous roots, cut into thin slices, and dry them in the sun.

[Original form] Perennial herbaceous vine. The stem is slender and left-handed. The leaves are alternate, papery, triangular-heart-shaped or oblong-heart-shaped, wavy below the middle of the edge, with white powder on the back, 7 veins, sparse hairs along the veins, and turn dark brown when dry. Flowers are unisexual and dioecious; male inflorescences are spike-shaped; female inflorescences are drooping spikes. The capsule is nearly round and has three wings. When mature, they bend upward and droop, and the wings are longer than they are wide. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from June to September.

[Habitat distribution] Growing under mixed woods on hillsides or on the edge of forests. It is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi and Hunan.

[Properties] The rhizome is bamboo-shaped, cylindrical, with a wrinkled surface, often with residual stem withering scars and unremoved slender fibrous roots.
