The seeds are drupe-like, with fleshy black-brown arils, oblong, ovate or rectangular-obovate, and nearly sessile. Flowering period is from April to June. Fruiting period is from September to November.

[Habitat distribution] It often grows in forests, or on hillsides, valleys, and river banks. Distributed in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong and other places.

[Chemical composition] The roots and stems contain several kinds of alkaloids.

[Pharmacological action] The 100% decoction of Gastrodia elata (unidentified species) in vitro has different degrees of inhibitory effect on Group A Streptococcus, Catarrhalis, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and Shigella flexneri.
