[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Aralia aralia of the Araliaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 1.5m tall. The underground rhizome is large and slender. The leaves are one to three pinnate compound leaves, about 15-20cm long; the petiole is about 4cm long; the stipules and petiole are fused at the base, semicircular, about 4mm long, with ciliated edges; there are 5-9 pinnae, 3 leaflets at the tip, the petiolules are 8-20cm long, and the terminal ones are up to 4.5cm long; the leaf blade is membranous, broadly cordate, 2-4cm long, 2-4.5cm wide, with a long acuminate tip and a cordate base, with sparse white scaly prickles along the veins and sharp serrations on the edges; there are 5-7 pairs of lateral veins, which are obvious on both sides. The panicle is sparse, terminal, with only a few branches, 15-25cm long, and there are often 1-3 axillary umbels at the lower part of the main axis, with 12-18 flowers in the umbel; the peduncle is 2.5cm long and has short soft hairs; the bracts are lanceolate, about 5mm long; the pedicels are about 7mm long; the bracts are conical; the calyx tube is glabrous, with 5 triangular teeth on the edge; there are 5 petals, ovate; there are 5 stamens; the ovary has 5 chambers, 5 styles, and is free. The drupe is spherical, berry-like, black when ripe, about 7mm in diameter, and has 5 ribs. The flowering period is July, and the fruiting period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on hillsides at an altitude of 2600m.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; slightly sweet; neutral

【Functions and indications】Tonify the middle and replenish qi; expel toxins and reduce swelling. It is used to treat dizziness due to qi deficiency; tinnitus; chronic lymphadenitis; carbuncle that does not ulcerate for a long time; chronic suppurative osteomyelitis

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decoct in water, 9-15g. For external use: appropriate amount, mash and apply; or use the decoction for washing.
