What is Artemisia

What is Artemisia

There are many traditional festivals in China, which have been passed down from ancient times. Each festival has its own customs. In May in China, everyone knows that there is a Dragon Boat Festival, which is based on the Chinese lunar calendar. Every time the Dragon Boat Festival comes, everyone will buy mugwort to wash their faces. This has become a custom of the Dragon Boat Festival. Every time the Dragon Boat Festival comes, the elderly in the family will buy it early.

Every time I wash my face with mugwort, I can smell a fresh fragrance. Many people probably have always wondered what mugwort is. Except for the Dragon Boat Festival, we rarely see mugwort at other times. So today I will tell you what mugwort is.

Artemisia is wormwood (plant).

Artemisia argyi H. Lév. & Vaniot, also known as: ice platform, grass, fragrant wormwood, Qi wormwood, wormwood, wormwood, moxibustion grass, medical grass, yellow grass, wormwood, etc. It is a perennial herb or slightly semi-shrub-like plant with a strong aroma. The stem is solitary or a few, brown or grayish-yellow brown, slightly woody at the base, scutellaria at the top, with a few short branches, thick papery leaves, covered with grayish-white short soft hairs, usually without stipules or very small stipules at the base; the upper leaves and bracts are pinnate-cleft, the head inflorescence is elliptical, the corolla is tubular or goblet-shaped, with glandular dots on the outside, the anthers are narrowly linear, the style is nearly equal to the corolla or slightly longer than the corolla. The achenes are long ovate or oblong.

The flowering and fruiting period is from September to October. The whole plant is used as medicine, which has the effects of warming the meridians, removing dampness, dispelling cold, stopping bleeding, reducing inflammation, relieving asthma, relieving cough, stabilizing pregnancy, and resisting allergies. The leaves of mugwort are dried and crushed to make "mugwort wool", which is made into moxa sticks for moxibustion and can also be used as the raw material of "ink pad". It is distributed in Asia and Europe. Mugwort has a special fragrance. It can be made into a fragrant pillow and has the effect of helping sleep and relieving fatigue. Boil the leaves of mugwort and then dilute it with water for bathing to remove small red bumps on the body.

In addition, it can repel mosquitoes and flies, sterilize and disinfect, and prevent diseases. Mugwort is also used in acupuncture "moxibustion", which means burning mugwort to fumigate and burn acupuncture points. Soaking your feet in mugwort has many health benefits. Because it has the function of curing diseases, especially on May Day, when it is picked in the dew, the medicinal effect is the best.

Through the above introduction, everyone can clearly understand what mugwort is. The reason why mugwort is used by people during the Dragon Boat Festival is actually because insects come out at this time. Mugwort has the effect of repelling insects and can help people drive away mosquitoes.
