Effects of Red Peony Root

Effects of Red Peony Root

Red peony root is often cultivated as an ornamental plant in flowerpots. Its flowers are very beautiful. March and April every year are its peak blooming period. The flowers are red. The root of red peony root can be used as medicine and can be harvested twice a year, in spring and autumn. Although red peony root and white peony root are both from the Ranunculaceae family and are almost the same species, their medicinal value is completely different. Everyone should pay attention to this when using the medicine.

It is incredible and baffling that one species can be used as a traditional Chinese medicine with two very different effects. Is it profound or just a trick? Nature is really a trick on us. Today, I will focus on the effects of red peony root for your reference:

There are 22 species of plants in the world belonging to the Paeoniaceae family, the Paeonia genus, and the Paeonia lactiflora group. There are 9 species in my country. Only the red peony root has extremely high ornamental and medicinal value, standing out among the peony species and making the flowers and leaves of other species, such as the Sichuan red peony root and the grass peony, pale in comparison.

Red peony root tastes bitter and is cool in nature. It has the effects of removing blood stasis, relieving pain, cooling blood and reducing swelling. It has a good therapeutic effect on intestinal bleeding, irregular menstruation, spontaneous sweating and night sweats, red and swollen eyes, abdominal pain, and flank pain. Pharmacological analysis shows that peony contains paeoniflorin, benzoic acid, volatile oil, resin, sugar, starch, etc., which have inhibitory effects on Shigella dysenteriae and Staphylococcus, and have analgesic, sedative and anticonvulsant effects. White peony root is the root of the perennial herbaceous plant Paeonia lactiflora of the Ranunculaceae family, without the outer bark. It is cool in nature and has basically the same effects as red peony root. It is traditionally used for yin deficiency fever, spontaneous sweating and night sweats, and is mainly used to treat dizziness, headache, chest and flank pain, dysentery abdominal pain, appendicitis abdominal pain, gastrocnemius spasm, dysmenorrhea and irregular menstruation.

The effects of red peony root have been introduced above, and the effects of white peony root have also been introduced. You can use them differently according to your own circumstances. Chinese medicine emphasizes syndrome differentiation and each person has his or her own prescription. Since everyone has different physical conditions, you can start with a small dose, see the effect, and gradually increase the dose to find a suitable dose.
