The efficacy and function of Asarum

Asarum is a relatively common plant in my country because it likes to grow in cool and humid places. Some people may not be familiar with the name of this plant, but they will know it when they see it. Asarum is generally used in the manufacture of medicines because the medicinal value of this plant is relatively large and its medicinal range is relatively wide. If used for health care, it is a good medicine.

The main functions of asarum include dispelling cold, treating pain, and relieving tooth inflammation and pain. Its wide-ranging efficacy and effects are deeply loved by everyone. Because this plant is relatively mild in nature, it also has certain benefits to the body.

1. Sedative and analgesic effects: Asarum volatile oil has obvious central nervous system inhibitory effects. Small doses can make animals quiet, docile, and reduce their autonomous activities; large doses can make animals sleep and have obvious anticonvulsant effects.

2. Antipyretic effect: Oral administration of Asarum volatile oil has a significant antipyretic effect on experimental fever in rabbits caused by various reasons, such as warm needling and typhoid and paratyphoid mixed vaccines. It also has a significant antipyretic effect on fever in rats caused by brewer's yeast. It can also lower the body temperature of normal rats.

3. Antiasthmatic and expectorant effects: Asarum can relax bronchial smooth muscles and have an antiasthmatic effect. In vitro experiments have shown that the volatile oil of Asarum has a significant antagonistic effect on bronchospasm caused by histamine and acetylcholine; its volatile oil component methyl eugenol also has a significant relaxant effect on the trachea of rats.

4. Improve the body's metabolic function. The racemic nor-corundum isolated from Asarum has a wide range of pharmacological effects similar to β-receptor agonists, and has the effects of strengthening the heart, dilating blood vessels, relaxing smooth muscles, enhancing lipid metabolism and raising blood sugar.

5. Antibacterial and antiviral effects: Asarum alcohol extract, volatile oil, etc. have certain in vitro inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria, Bacillus subtilis and Salmonella typhi. The decoction also has inhibitory effects on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Salmonella typhi.

In addition to its pharmacological effects and efficacy, its health value is also quite high. Because asarum contains a variety of trace elements and some amino acids essential to the body. It should be noted that asarum has relatively high requirements for kidney function, so people with renal insufficiency should take it with caution. If you experience any adverse reactions after taking the medicine, stop taking it immediately and seek medical attention in time.
