Plant characteristics: Perennial herb, 15 to 20 cm tall. The tuber is long and spindle-shaped. The capsule is nearly spherical and splits into 5 lobes when ripe. The seeds are oblate with wart-like protrusions. Flowering period is from April to May. The fruiting period is from May to June.

Growing environment: Produced in Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Sichuan. It grows in the shade and wet places under forests in valleys at an altitude of 800-2700 meters. There are also cases in Japan and North Korea.

Medicinal material properties: slender spindle-shaped or slender strip-shaped, slightly curved, 3 to 10 cm long and 0.2 to 0.6 cm in diameter.
