Ginseng

Other names: white ginseng, red ginseng, Beizhi ginseng, Jilin ginseng, wild ginseng.

It has the effects of replenishing vital energy, nourishing the spleen and lungs, promoting fluid production and quenching thirst, calming the mind and increasing intelligence. Codonopsis pilosula

It is mild in nature and sweet in taste. Efficacy: tonifies the middle and replenishes Qi, strengthens the spleen and nourishes blood. Codonopsis pilosula is a mild tonic product, weaker than ginseng. It can be used to treat general chronic weak diseases. It is particularly suitable for shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, weak speech, and low voice caused by lung qi deficiency; lack of qi in the middle causing poor appetite, loose stools, and fatigue in the limbs; lack of qi and blood, dizziness, and palpitations, etc. It is best to use it raw to invigorate Qi and promote body fluid production, it is best to stir-fry it to replenish Qi and strengthen the spleen, and it is best to roast it with honey to treat cough and asthma due to lung deficiency.

American Ginseng

It is produced in Canada, the United States and France, and is also cultivated in my country. It is cold in nature, bitter and slightly sweet in taste. The effects include replenishing qi and nourishing yin, clearing away heat and promoting body fluid. It is suitable for injuries to both Qi and Yin, fatigue, thirst, shortness of breath, toothache due to deficiency heat, coughing up sputum and blood in the stool, intestinal heat and blood in the stool, etc. It has a tonic effect on patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, coronary heart disease, and acute fever due to deficiency of Qi and Yin. It is especially effective in preventing loss of vital energy due to excessive sweating in the hot summer.

Pseudostellaria heterophylla

Also known as baby ginseng and children's ginseng. It is mild in nature, sweet and slightly bitter in taste. Efficacy: Replenishing Qi and promoting salivation. Pseudostellariae has effects similar to ginseng in invigorating qi, promoting body fluid, and nourishing the spleen and lungs, but its medicinal power is weaker. It is a pure tonic among qi-tonifying herbs. It is mostly used for spleen deficiency, poor appetite, fatigue, palpitations and spontaneous sweating, lung deficiency, cough, lack of body fluid and thirst, etc. It is especially suitable for children with weight loss, weak limbs, etc.

Adenophora

It is slightly cold in nature and sweet in taste. Efficacy: Clears the lungs, nourishes yin, benefits the stomach and produces body fluid. It is suitable for pulmonary tuberculosis, lung heat and dry cough, dry cough with little sputum; deficiency of stomach yin caused by long-term fever, dull pain in the stomach, dry retching, thirst, etc. There are southern and northern Adenophora. Southern Adenophora has the function of removing phlegm, while northern Adenophora has a better effect of nourishing yin.

Salvia miltiorrhiza

Also known as purple salvia miltiorrhiza. It is bitter in nature and slightly cold in taste. Efficacy: promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, cooling blood and eliminating carbuncle, nourishing blood and calming the mind. It is suitable for treating various diseases caused by blood stasis or poor blood circulation, such as irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, pain caused by trauma; eliminating carbuncles, etc. Salvia miltiorrhiza is now commonly used in clinical treatment of coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, hepatosplenomegaly, cerebrovascular disease, etc.

Scrophularia

Also known as Yuanshen, it is cold in nature and tastes bitter, liver and salty. It has the effects of clearing away heat, detoxifying and nourishing yin. It is suitable for dry cough due to lung dryness, fever and dry mouth, sore throat, carbuncles and ulcers, etc. It can also be used for thromboangiitis obliterans, diabetic foot gangrene, etc.

Sophora flavescens

It is cold in nature and bitter in taste. It has the effects of clearing away heat and dampness, dispelling wind and killing insects, and promoting diuresis. It is suitable for yellow and thick vaginal discharge and vaginal itching; skin itching, impetigo, scabies and other symptoms. It is also used to treat urinary problems during pregnancy and is effective for vaginal trichomoniasis.
