Traditional Chinese medicine often uses perilla seeds to treat whooping cough and ascariasis in infants and young children. The following is an introduction to the specific effects of perilla seeds.

The leaves of Su Ma Zi can disperse the external cold and have a strong diaphoretic effect. They are used for wind-cold external symptoms, such as aversion to cold, fever, and no sweating. They are often used together with ginger. If the external symptoms are accompanied by qi stagnation, they can be used together with Cyperus rotundus, dried tangerine peel, etc. Perilla leaf is used to treat spleen and stomach qi stagnation, chest tightness, and nausea.

Perilla seed can reduce qi and eliminate phlegm, relieve cough and asthma, and moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements. It is used for phlegm accumulation, qi stagnation, cough, asthma, dry intestines and constipation.

The antibacterial effect experiment shows that perilla oil (0.1%) has an inhibitory effect on Proteus, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium and molds in nature. Its effect on mold and yeast is significantly stronger than 0.05% paraben and 0.3% benzoic acid.

Antiseptic and antioxidant effects: The defatted ethanol extract of Perilla seeds has antiseptic and antioxidant effects. Can be used for long-term storage of food and medicine. Its antioxidant effect is stronger than that of 0.02% BHT (2, 6-di-tert-butyl-p-hydroxybenzyl alcohol).
