[Source] It is the narrow-leaved red fennel Illicium lanceolatum AC Smith or red fennel I. henryi Diels, a plant of the genus Illicium in the Magnoliaceae family. The root and root bark are used as medicine. It can be harvested throughout the year and used fresh or dried.

[Toxicity] (1) Both the root and root bark of Fennel are poisonous. Avoid excessive use. The fruit is also poisonous and should not be used as star anise to avoid poisoning accidents. Symptoms of poisoning: generally dizziness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, sweating, convulsions, severe cases may include teeth grinding, cyanosis, difficulty breathing, opisthotonos, and even death due to convulsions. Rescue method: Induce vomiting, gastric lavage and catharsis in the early stage; when symptoms of poisoning appear, you can take raw licorice soup, sugar water, inject glucose saline, hibernation spirit, and make timely symptomatic treatment.

【Functions and indications】 Disperses blood stasis and relieves pain, dispels wind and dampness. Used for traumatic injuries, rheumatoid arthritis, and low back and leg pain.

[Usage and Dosage] 1-2 qian of root, decocted in water; grind the root bark into powder and swallow it, no more than 3 fen each time.
