Nursing of the mentally ill

Nursing of the mentally ill

Mental illness is a common disease that has a great impact on both patients and their families. When there is a mentally ill patient in the family, care must be strengthened. Patients are prone to nutritional imbalances in their daily lives. At this time, certain improvements should be made in a timely manner to avoid adverse effects on the patient's health. In addition, more care should be taken during the nursing process. For more serious patients, it is best to go to a professional psychiatric hospital for care.

Nursing of the mentally ill

1. Millet: People with insomnia can eat more millet, because millet is a nutritious food among all grains. It contains the richest tryptophan and has a calming, soothing and sleep-inducing effect. In addition, millet contains a large amount of starch, which can easily make insomnia patients feel warm and full after eating it. It can promote the secretion of insulin and increase the amount of tryptophan entering the brain.

5. Milk: Because milk contains two hypnotic substances: one is tryptophan; the other is peptides that regulate physiological functions, which can combine with the central nervous system to exert an anesthetic and analgesic effect similar to opium, making people feel comfortable all over the body.

2. Arrange appropriate work and recreational activities based on the patient's condition, physical strength, interests and expertise, and provide spiritual encouragement and enthusiastic guidance at any time during the activities to enhance their interest. Nursing for mental illness is very important. In addition to medical care, some vocational and recreational care should be provided to guide and change the patient's thinking and mood. Here are some methods of industrial and recreational care.

3. For general patients, it is advisable to arrange relaxing and enjoyable recreational activities and simple manual work. Such as watching TV, movies, art performances, taking walks, reading picture magazines, pasting envelopes (medicine bags), removing yarn ends, weeding outdoors, cleaning the environment, etc., so that patients can divert their morbid thinking and relax their thoughts and emotions, and feel that they are capable of doing the job.

4. For patients with depression and low mood, it is advisable to place them in an environment with many people and active atmosphere, choose colorful products for occupational therapy, and let them participate in passionate, joyful and enjoyable recreational activities.

Psychiatric Nursing Considerations

1. Once the patient has special skills or is in the recovery period, psychiatric nursing can arrange more complex work and entertainment activities, such as rehearsing cultural programs, painting, ball games, sewing, knitting, making fine handicrafts, etc. These are beneficial to the patient's intellectual training, recovery of work ability, and improvement of life interest, thus laying a good foundation for his/her discharge from hospital and return to work.

2. In daily life, patients can combine their condition with their physical strength, arrange appropriate work and recreational activities through some interests and observations, and give spiritual encouragement and enthusiastic guidance at any time during the activities to enhance their interest. Nursing for mental illness is very important. In addition to medical care, some vocational and recreational care should be provided to guide and change the patient's thinking and mood.

3. For patients with mild illness, relaxing and enjoyable entertainment activities and simple manual work can be arranged for patients to pass the time. Nursing for the mentally ill includes watching TV, movies, art performances, taking walks, reading picture magazines, pasting envelopes (medicine bags), removing yarn ends, weeding outdoors, cleaning the environment, etc., so that patients can divert their morbid thinking and relax their thoughts and emotions, and feel that they are capable of doing their job.

4. For patients who are depressed and in low spirits, they can be placed in an environment with many people and an active atmosphere, and colorful items can be selected for occupational therapy. They can also be allowed to participate in passionate, joyful and enjoyable recreational activities. This is also one of the nursing measures for mental illness.
