Wheatgrass is a Chinese herbal medicine. We rarely hear of it in daily life. It also has many names such as fine-fruited fennel, snowgreen and yellow flower grass. Wheatgrass has obvious therapeutic effects on diseases such as headaches, colds, fever, swollen and painful eyes, hepatitis, cholecystitis, pneumonia and sore throat. The main effects of wheatgrass are cooling blood, detoxifying and clearing away heat. The following introduces the main effects and specific prescriptions of wheat grass. 1. Wheatgrass Fennel, a traditional Chinese medicine. It is the whole herb of Hypecoum leptocarpum Hook.f.et Thoms. of the Poppy family. Distributed in North China, Northwest China, Henan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet and other places. It has the effects of clearing away heat, detoxifying and cooling blood. Used for colds and fever, headaches, sore throats, red and swollen eyes, joint pain, pneumonia, hepatitis, cholecystitis, dysentery, hematemesis, epistaxis, and bloody stools. Annual herb, up to 60 cm tall, glabrous, slightly powdery. The stems are clustered, of varying lengths, spreading out with the tips pointing upwards, and many branches. Basal leaves are numerous; petiole is 1.5-10 cm long; leaf blade is narrowly oblanceolate, 5-20 cm long, twice pinnately divided, with segments lanceolate, ovate, narrowly elliptic to obovate; stem leaves are small, with short petioles or nearly sessile. There are many flower stalks, usually dichotomously branched, with whorled bracts; bracts ovate or obovate, pinnately divided twice, gradually becoming smaller upwards, with the uppermost ones being linear; flowers are small, arranged in dichotomous cymes, each flower with several bristle-like bracteoles; sepals are small, narrowly ovate; petals are 4, lavender or white, the outer 2 are broadly obovate, entire at the apex, the inner 2 are smaller, 3-lobed almost to the middle, the middle lobe is spoon-shaped, rounded, and the lateral lobes are longer; stamens are 4, filaments are filiform, widened at the base, yellowish brown, and anthers are ovate; ovary is cylindrical. The fruit is narrowly linear, with one seed per node. Seeds broadly obovate. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is from July to September. 2. Effects of wheatgrass ① "Common Chinese Herbal Medicines in Tibet": "It can relieve fever and pain, reduce inflammation and detoxify. It can treat colds, headaches, pain in the limbs and joints, cholecystitis, and food poisoning." ② "Selected Chinese Herbal Medicines from Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai": "It is used to treat influenza, sore throat and red eyes." 3. Additional prescription 1. Treat wind-heat cold and sore throat: Rhizoma Cyperi 9g, Fructus Forsythiae 12g, Fructus Arctii 9g, Peppermint 4.5g, Licorice 4.5g. Decoction in water. 2. Treatment of acute conjunctivitis: 9g of Rhizoma Cyperi and 9g of Chrysanthemum. Decoction in water or drink as tea. 3. To treat acute pharyngitis: decoct 9g of wheatgrass in water and drink. |
