In vitro experiments have shown that Houttuynia cordata root decoction has different degrees of inhibitory effects on a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, catarrhal Gram-negative bacilli, diphtheria, Proteus, Shigella, Shigella, Shigella flexneri, Shigella sonnei, and Streptococcus enteritidis. The antibacterial effect of Houttuynia cordata root decoction is not very significant.

The main antibacterial component of Houttuynia cordata root, decanoyl hydrobromide, has a significant antibacterial effect on a variety of bacteria, acid-fast bacilli and bacteria, but the properties of this compound are unstable. Its sodium bisulfite addition has stable properties while retaining its antibacterial specificity. The sodium bisulfite addition of decanoyl bromide synthesized in my country is called synthetic houttuynia cordata, which has a significant antibacterial effect on a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria outside the body. It is most sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus and penicillin-resistant strains, Pneumococcus, Form A Streptococcus, and Streptococcus influenzae, followed by Catarrhal Gram-negative bacilli and Salmonella typhi, while Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Shigella dysenteriae are not very sensitive. Houttuynia cordata root extract can significantly increase the survival time of mice infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In addition, it also has a significant inhibitory effect on Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, Sporothrix, Aspergillus, Chromyces, Trichophyton, Trichophyton imbricata, Microsporum gypsum, Microsporum ferrugineum, and Shark Trichophyton.
