1. Anticonvulsant

When mice were orally administered 1 gram of anticonvulsant powder (a mixture of equal amounts of whole scorpion and centipede dry powder) per day for 1, 3, and 9 days, it had antagonistic effects on convulsions caused by pentamethyltetrazolium, strychnine, and nicotinic acid. The effect against convulsions caused by strychnine was the most significant, followed by nicotinic acid, pentamethyltetrazolium was the worst, and cocaine had no effect. The whole scorpion and centipede are also effective when applied separately at 1 gram per day, but the effect of the whole scorpion is weaker than that of the centipede.

2. Effects on the cardiovascular system

Intravenous injection of scorpion extract and decoction can cause a temporary drop in blood pressure in rabbits and dogs (a temporary increase can be seen in a few cases), but it quickly recovers, followed by a gradual and lasting drop in blood pressure that lasts for more than 1 to 3 hours. Oral gavage or intramuscular injection also has a significant and lasting hypotensive effect.

3. Anti-epileptic

The polypeptide (AEP) isolated from scorpion venom has strong anti-epileptic activity and has a strong inhibitory effect on animal epilepsy induced by coriaria lactone and cefuroxime. Its mechanism of action is different from that of diazepam, and its activity is at least 10 times that of diazepam.

4. Anti-tumor

The crude extract of whole scorpion can directly inhibit and kill cancer cells, and still has a high inhibition rate on tumor growth after drug withdrawal.

5. Analgesia

Experiments using the mouse writhing method, mouse thermal radiation tail flick method, and rat trigeminal nerve evoked cortical potential method showed that the scorpion venom has a strong inhibitory effect on visceral pain, skin burning pain, and trigeminal nerve evoked potentials.

6. Antifungal

The water extract of the whole scorpion (1:5) has an inhibitory effect on Microsporum audouinii.

7. Immune effect

Continuous oral administration of 2g/kg of the decoction of the whole scorpion and scorpion body for 6 days can significantly reduce the clearance effect of the reticuloendothelial system of mice on carbon particles, and there is no significant difference in the effects of the whole scorpion and the scorpion body. Continuous oral administration of 2g/kg of whole scorpion decoction for 7 days can significantly reduce the serum half-hemolysis value of mice. The LD50 of whole scorpion administered orally to mice is greater than 10g/kg.
