Traditional Chinese medicine is profound and has brought us many shocks in clinical treatment and theoretical research. For example, "different diseases, same treatment". Seemingly different diseases have the same etiology and pathogenesis, so the treatment methods are also the same, and even the prescriptions and medicines may be the same. However, "same disease, different treatments" means that the same disease appears to have the same symptoms, but the treatment methods are completely different. This is because different causes and pathogenesis lead to different treatment methods and prescriptions. It can be seen that Chinese medicine is very flexible. It can be used for thousands of people or for one person. It has strong holistic and individual characteristics. We have to sigh at the wisdom of our ancestors. The medicines and prescriptions have been used to perfection. Yes, not only can prescriptions be changed flexibly, the same medicine has different effects in different prescriptions, and even the same medicine has different effects in different doses. Bupleurum is a typical example. Bupleurum was first recorded in "Shennong Bencao Jing" and listed as a top-grade herb. "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "(Bupleurum) is now found in Guan, Shaanxi, Jianghu, and nearby roads, and the one from Yinzhou is the best. It sprouts in February and is very fragrant. Its stems are blue-purple and its leaves are like bamboo leaves with a slightly purple tint... It blooms with yellow flowers in July... Its roots are red, similar to Peucedanum but stronger." A relatively clear introduction is given to the morphology of Bupleurum. Bupleurum is pungent, bitter, and slightly cold in nature. It enters the liver and gallbladder meridians. It has the effects of relieving exterior symptoms and fever, soothing the liver and relieving depression, and raising Yang Qi. Many people only know that Bupleurum can relieve liver disease, but they don’t know its other functions. In fact, in addition to soothing the liver and relieving depression, Bupleurum can also raise yang and lift the sunken, and can release the exterior and relieve muscles. Moreover, these are the different effects produced by the three different doses of Bupleurum. Depei Materia Medica introduces: "It can be used raw for external infections and should be used more frequently; it can be fried with wine to increase the qi and should be used less frequently." Later generations concluded that it is best to use it raw to relieve fever, and the dosage should be large; to soothe the liver, it is best to use a medium dosage when fried with vinegar; to raise yang, it is best to use a small dosage when used raw. In clinical practice, the small dose is generally 3-6g, the medium dose is 9-12g, and the large dose is 12-15g or more. In the "Treatise on Febrile Diseases", the dosage of Chaihu in Xiao Chaihu Decoction is 12g, which is used to harmonize Shaoyang, relieve muscles and release exterior. It is used for exogenous fever, or alternating cold and heat caused by evil entering the semi-exterior and semi-interior regions, and cold and heat caused by malaria, etc. The dosage of Chaihu Shugan San in "Jing Yue Quan Shu" is 6g, which is used to soothe the liver and relieve depression. It is used for liver depression and qi stagnation, fullness and pain in the ribs, liver depression and blood deficiency, irregular menstruation, etc. In the Treatise on the Spleen and Stomach, the dosage of Bupleurum in Buzhong Yiqi Decoction is 3g, which can raise the yang and lift the sunken. It is used for rectal prolapse, uterine prolapse, gastric prolapse, etc. caused by insufficient middle qi and sinking of the clear yang. The above is not a fixed dosage and usage. Most of the time, it is added or subtracted based on the doctor's clinical experience and actual condition. Therefore, Chinese medicine is very flexible and mysterious. Medication must be used under the guidance of a professional doctor. |
