A medicinal plant that has the effects of nourishing the kidney and yang, benefiting the essence and blood, strengthening the tendons and bones, and promoting blood circulation and reducing swelling.

So, what are the functions of Curculigo?

Androgen-like effects

Sixteen male rats weighing 60-90g were selected, and their testicles were removed on both sides. On the 7th day after the operation, they were divided into 2 groups and gavaged with 10g/kg of 70% alcohol extract of Curculigo and normal saline, respectively, once a day for 21 consecutive days. On the day after the last administration, the animals were killed and the seminal vesicles were dissected out and weighed. Results The weights of seminal vesicles in the Curculigo group and the control group were 0.116±0.009 and 0.0679±0.003 mg/g body weight, respectively, with significant differences (P<0.01). This shows that Curculigo has androgen-like effects.

Adaptation

1. Tolerance to hypoxia: mice were gavaged with 20 and 40 g/kg of 70% alcohol extract of Curculigo orchioides. One hour later, the mice were placed in a 250 ml wide-mouth bottle with a stopper, the bottle mouth was sealed, and the survival time of each group of mice was recorded. Results The survival time of mice in the curculigo alcohol extract 20 g/kg, 40 g/kg groups and the control group were 28.8±1.14, 33.6±1.19 and 26.8±0.77 (minutes, X±SE), respectively. Curculigo 40g/kg had a significant anti-hypoxia effect (P<0.001).

2. Anti-hyperthermia effect: 10 g/kg of 70% alcohol extract of Curculigo was injected intraperitoneally into mice. After 30 minutes, the mice were placed in a constant temperature box at 45±1℃. The mortality rate of mice in each group was recorded when half of the total number of mice in the drug group and the control group died. Results Five of the 20 mice in the Curculigo group died (mortality rate: 25%), while 14 of the 20 mice in the control group died (mortality rate: 70%). The difference between the two groups was significant (P<0.05). This shows that Curculigo has anti-high temperature effect.

Anti-inflammatory effects

Mice were intraperitoneally injected with 10 g/kg of Curculigo 70% alcohol extract, 50 mg/kg of cortisone and normal saline, and inflammation was induced with croton oil 30 minutes after administration. Results The swelling degrees of the ear pieces of mice in the Curculigo group, cortisone group and control group were 9.25±1.23 mg, 4.1±1.35 mg and 14±1.04 mg, respectively. The results showed that Curculigo had a significant inhibitory effect on experimental inflammation in mice (P<0.05).

Effects on the activity of Na(+) and K(+)-ATPase in erythrocyte membrane

Mice were gavaged with 6 g/kg of a 12% decoction of Curculigo and other tonic Chinese medicines, once a day for 10 consecutive days. The control group was given an equal volume of water. Determination of enzyme activity. The results showed that tonic herbs such as Curculigo can increase the activity of Na(+) and K(+)-ATPase.

Well, here we have learned about the question of what Curculigo is. I believe many friends have a certain understanding of Curculigo. As for food tonic ingredients, housewives should learn more about them in their daily lives, and then master some delicious and simple cooking methods.
