What are the effects of Podocarpus?

Friends who pay attention to health care know that there is a common Chinese medicine called Podocarpus, which is a tree that bears fruit. The main fruit is spherical. The dry bark and cones of Podocarpus can be used as medicine. It can be planted all year round. Autumn is the time when Podocarpus fruits ripen. It can be used as medicine to treat dull complexion and replenish qi and blood. It is very effective. So what are the effects of Podocarpus!

Characteristics of Han pine: The crown is broad and oval. The leaves are linear-lanceolate, pointed at the tip, cuneate at the base, with raised mid-ribs on both sides, dark green on the surface, gray-green on the back, sometimes covered with white powder, arranged closely, and spirally alternate. Dioecious or occasionally monoecious. The seeds are oval, with a black aril, borne on a fleshy and swollen receptacle, which is dark red, sweet and edible. The flowering period is May and the seed maturity period is October. Common cultivated varieties include narrow-leaved Podocarpus, which has narrow leaves that gradually narrow to a pointed tip; columnar Podocarpus, which has small leaves with pure or rounded tips; small-leaved Podocarpus, which has leaves densely packed at the top of the twigs, spirally arranged, narrow, and blunt-rounded tips; short-pointed Podocarpus, which has extremely short leaves; and variegated Podocarpus, which has white spots on the leaves.

Podocarpus is a national second-class protected plant, but the country protects wild Podocarpus germplasm in the virgin forest. The Podocarpus in the city are basically artificially cultivated offspring and have little biological significance. Just like Metasequoia and Ginkgo, their artificially cultivated offspring are no longer under protection. Of course, they still play an ecological role as greening trees and cannot be cut down at will. There is nothing illegal about transplanting Podocarpus as a landscape tree.

Podocarpus habit: semi-sun tree species. Grows well in semi-shade environment. It likes warm, humid and fertile sandy loam, and can also grow in coastal plains. It cannot tolerate severe cold, so it can only be grown in pots in North China. Long lifespan.

Podocarpus propagation: Sowing and cuttings are commonly used for propagation. Sowing: Sow immediately after collecting seeds in August, and they will germinate after about 10 days. Cuttings are carried out in spring and autumn. Choose dormant branches in spring and semi-lignified young branches in autumn. They are 12 to 15 cm long and inserted into a seedbed that is half sand and half soil. They will take about 50 to 60 days to take root.

Podocarpus cultivation: native to my country. It likes warm, humid and semi-shady environment, has slightly poor cold resistance, is afraid of waterlogging and direct sunlight, and requires fertile, well-drained sandy loam. The best time for transplanting is in spring, March to April. Small seedlings need to be transplanted with soil, and large seedlings need to be transplanted with soil balls. They can also be planted in pots. Water thoroughly after planting. Keep the soil moist during the growing season. It needs to be kept in a semi-shaded place during the hot summer season. Fertilize once every 2 months. Pay attention to protecting potted plants from the cold in winter, bury the pots in the soil and reduce watering.

Podocarpus disease and pest control: The main hazards are leaf spot disease and anthracnose. Spray with 500 times diluted 50% methyl thiophanate wettable powder. Insect pests include scale insects, red spiders and large bagworm moths, which can be killed by spraying 1500 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate.

Podocarpus is a second-level protected plant in my country and is also a kind of plant that grows in my country's primeval forests. Nowadays, the Podocarpus in cities are basically artificially cultivated, and their efficacy is not very significant. Just like Metasequoia and Ginkgo, they are not as good as wild ones. Podocarpus has the effects of invigorating qi and blood, regulating the body, and preventing insect pests and diseases, so it has a good effect on the body.
