What are the effects of Chuanxiong in Chinese medicine?

I believe that many women will experience some external phenomena of insufficient Qi and blood, such as irregular menstruation, insomnia, and yellow complexion as they age. Therefore, how to regulate Qi and blood scientifically and effectively is the focus of many older women. In fact, in our traditional Chinese medicine, Chuanxiong has a very good effect on regulating Qi and blood. So what are the effects of Chuanxiong in the Chinese medicine Daquan? Let's discuss it together!

【Overview of Chinese Medicine】

Chuanxiong, also known as Shanjuqiong, Xiongbi, Xiangguo, Hubi, Maxian Xiongbi, Quenao Xiong, Jingxiong, Guanxiong, Fuxiong, Taixiong and Xixiong, is the rhizome of the herb Chuanxiong of the Umbelliferae family. Pungent, warm. It enters the liver, gallbladder and pericardium meridians.

1. Promote blood circulation and qi circulation: It is used for menstrual disorders caused by blood stasis and qi stagnation, such as late menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and amenorrhea. It has the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, promoting qi circulation and relieving pain, so it was called "blood-qi medicine" by the ancients. It is often used together with Angelica sinensis to enhance the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis and relieving pain, such as <Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction>.

2. Dispel wind and relieve pain: used for headache, body pain and rheumatic pain caused by wind evil (cold), such as (Chuanxiong Cha Tiao San) and (Qianghuo Shengshi Decoction).

【Pharmacological action】

1. Impact on the cardiovascular system:

(1) Effect on the heart: Chuanxiong extract ligustrazine has a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the isolated guinea pig heart, but has little effect on the heart rate. Before and during hypoxia, the effect of ligustrazine on the isolated guinea pig heart is to weaken the myocardial contractility, decrease the diastolic function, and slow down the heart rate. Ligustrazine has a cardiotonic effect on the whole animal.

(2) Effects on blood vessels and blood pressure: Ligustrazine can produce different degrees of antihypertensive effects when administered in different doses by different routes (intravenous injection, intravenous drip or intraduodenal administration) to a variety of animals (cats, rabbits and rats).

(3) Effect on coronary flow: Ligusticum chuanxiong and ligustrazine have a significant effect on increasing coronary flow in the hearts of isolated rats or guinea pigs.

(4) Effect on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury Intraperitoneal injection of ligustrazine and oral administration of ligustine can prolong the survival time of mice in a low-pressure hypoxic environment and can counteract acute myocardial ischemia and hypoxia in rabbits caused by vasopressin.

(5) Effect on cerebral circulation and cerebral ischemia: Intravenous injection of 4 mg/Kg of ligustrazine can dilate cerebral blood vessels, reduce vascular resistance, and significantly increase cerebral blood flow. Chuanxiong can counteract the changes in cerebrovascular hemodynamic parameters such as decreased mean carotid artery blood flow, mean blood flow velocity and increased cerebral vascular peripheral resistance in experimental atherosclerosis, and has a protective effect on cerebrovascular function.

(6) Effect on microcirculation: Ligusticum chuanxiong and ligustrazine can relieve the spasm of the cheek pouch microartery, veins and capillaries of golden hamsters caused by norepinephrine, accelerate the slowed blood flow velocity, and increase the reduced blood flow volume. Chuanxiong can significantly delay the onset of microcirculatory disorders such as cessation or slowing of arteriolar blood flow and contraction of arteriolar diameter caused by adrenaline, and has a dilating effect on arterioles.

From the above text, we can see that Chuanxiong does have its unique advantages in regulating women's qi and blood. Of course, I would like to emphasize that Chuanxiong is best stewed with black chicken. After eating, you must try to avoid drinking tea. Women who have the conditions should do appropriate outdoor sports, so as to maximize the role of Chuanxiong in regulating qi and blood.
