How to preserve fresh ginseng?

Ginseng is a very good tonic. Nowadays, the physical fitness of many elderly people is declining. Eating ginseng regularly can effectively improve our own physical fitness, help us reduce the chance of orthopedic diseases, and help us improve our resistance to viruses. However, many people still don’t know much about how to preserve fresh ginseng.

1. The first step is to clean it, which is to use a soft brush to brush off the dirt and other impurities on the surface and roots of the ginseng, and then rinse it in clean water. Rinse it, don't soak it, and avoid soaking it for a long time. Because ginsenoside, the main ingredient of ginseng, is easily soluble in water, long-term soaking will reduce the content of active ingredients. After rinsing it clean, shake off excess water and dry it in a cool and ventilated place. Do not expose to the sun for long periods of time.

If you need to store it for a long time, you can put it in an insulated box, that is, a large foam box, or in an independently sealed small package, and add a certain amount of desiccant.

2. Because ginseng contains more sugars, mucus and volatile oils, it is easy to be affected by moisture, oil, mold, discoloration, insects and other deterioration phenomena. There are several ways to store ginseng:

① Conventional storage method: For ginseng that is completely dry, seal it with a plastic bag to isolate it from air and store it in a cool place.

② Desiccant drying method: Place an appropriate amount of desiccant, such as quicklime, charcoal, etc., at the bottom of a sealed cylinder, tube, or box, then wrap the ginseng in paper and put it in, and seal it tightly.

③ Low temperature preservation method: This is the ideal method. Ginseng should be dried before storage. The best exposure time is between 9 am and 4 pm, but ginseng should not be exposed to the sun for a long time. At the same time, ginseng for medicinal use has reached a certain degree of dryness. Generally, you only need to turn the ginseng over in the afternoon for 1 to 2 hours. After it cools down, wrap it in a plastic bag, tie the bag tightly, and place it in the freezer of the refrigerator, so that it can be stored for a long time.

We must master some methods of preserving fresh ginseng to avoid the loss of nutrients in ginseng. Old people who eat ginseng regularly can effectively improve the toughness and strength of our own bones, and can effectively prevent the pain caused by orthopedic diseases, which brings us good results.
