There are many types of water beetles, with 160 species in my country alone, among which the Japanese water beetle is the largest one. The breeding cycle of water beetles is short (about 8 months from eggs to commercial adults), and they do not have high requirements for dissolved oxygen, water temperature, acidity and alkalinity, etc. They are less prone to disease, have a wide diet, and are easy to breed and manage. Water beetles are small and take up little water space, making them suitable for breeding in large water bodies such as fish ponds, as well as in small water bodies such as cement pools of a few square meters or even smaller water tanks. The breeding cost is low, and you can collect apple snails, field snails, fresh dead fish and shrimp, and various animal scraps from slaughterhouses that are distributed all over the place and feed them directly into the pond. Occasionally, you can add water to energy feeds such as corn flour and wheat bran, mix them into balls, and feed them after drying. Therefore, local areas can actively research and develop breeding according to market needs.

The price of water beetles is still relatively high now. In addition to its delicious taste, it is also inseparable from its high medicinal value. Most of the water beetles on the market now rely on capturing wild resources. Due to factors such as environmental pollution and overfishing, the number of wild water beetles is becoming less and less, which is also a major reason for the high price.
