Can Coptis chinensis really lower blood sugar?

Can Coptis chinensis really lower blood sugar?

Coptis chinensis is a very familiar Chinese herbal medicine. When we are just born, we will give the newborn some coptis chinensis water to drink, which means "bitter first then sweet", so many babies taste bitter the first taste when they are born, but the children do not know this taste at the time. Coptis chinensis has many functions and effects and is a very commonly used Chinese herbal medicine. So can Coptis chinensis help lower blood sugar?

Coptis chinensis is very bitter and cold; it enters the heart, liver, stomach and large intestine meridians. It has strong effects in clearing away heat and dampness. It is good at clearing damp-heat in the middle burner, treating damp-heat blocking the middle burner, abdominal distension, etc. It is especially important for treating diarrhea caused by damp-heat. It is also good at clearing heart heat and purging stomach fire. It is a good product for treating heart heat, irritability, insomnia and stomach heat vomiting. It can also clear away heat and cool blood, and treat bleeding due to excessive blood heat. It is also commonly used for carbuncles, ulcers, skin eczema, red and swollen eyes, etc. It has the effects of clearing away heat and dampness, purging fire and detoxifying.

Modern pharmacological research has found that in addition to the above-mentioned effects, Coptis chinensis also has the effects of lowering blood pressure, regulating blood lipids, lowering blood sugar, anti-arrhythmia and protecting the myocardium. For example, berberine (an extract from the roots of Chinese medicinal herbs Coptis chinensis or Phellodendron chinense, a pure Chinese medicine) can be used to treat hypertension and lower blood sugar, taking 0.4 to 0.6 grams orally three times a day. If used to lower serum cholesterol and triglycerides, take 0.5 grams orally, 4 times a day, and one month as a course of treatment. Effectiveness can be seen after only one course of treatment. If the Chinese medicine Coptis chinensis is used alone to lower blood pressure, lower blood lipids, and lower blood sugar, it must be combined with other Chinese medicines for better results.

Coptis chinensis and Gastrodia elata: Gastrodia elata is good at calming wind and stopping convulsions, and can treat internal liver wind caused by various causes of cold, heat, deficiency and excess, as well as epilepsy and convulsions. It is also good at suppressing liver yang, and can treat dizziness and headaches caused by various reasons. It is a good medicine for stopping dizziness, and can also dispel external wind, dredge meridians, stop convulsions, and treat numbness of limbs caused by wind in the meridians, spasms and convulsions, as well as rheumatic arthralgia, cramps and numbness. Modern pharmacological research shows that Gastrodia elata can lower blood pressure rapidly, improve cerebral blood flow, and reduce cerebral, peripheral and coronary vascular resistance. Coptis chinensis can clear heat and lower blood pressure. The combination of the two doubles the therapeutic effect. For example, use 1 gram of Coptis chinensis and 2 grams of Gastrodia elata, brew with boiling water and drink instead of tea, once a day, one course of treatment for 15 days.

Through the introduction in the article, we know that Coptis chinensis can help lower blood sugar, so you can choose Chinese herbal medicine when choosing it for conditioning, but blood sugar also needs to be regulated through dietary control, and many foods may increase blood sugar. Rice, potatoes, pasta and other foods that contain a lot of starch are not allowed to be eaten, so it is recommended to eat small meals frequently.
