What are the effects of the traditional Chinese medicine Curculigo

Curculigo is a plant that grows in Sichuan or Guizhou, but many people still don't know what it is. Curculigo actually has many names, and it is also commonly called Curculigo ginseng because it looks very similar to ginseng. If you use Curculigo to stew soup, the nutritional value is quite good. Curculigo stew has the effect of nourishing the kidney and strengthening yang, and eating Curculigo also has the effect of strengthening the body. So what are the effects of this traditional Chinese medicine Curculigo?

Effects on the central nervous system

1. Effect of sodium pentobarbital on sleep time: 30 minutes after intraperitoneal injection of 10 g/kg of curculigo alcohol extract to mice, 40 mg/kg of sodium pentobarbital was injected intraperitoneally, and the sleep time of mice was recorded. The results showed that the average sleep time of mice in the drug-treated group and the control group (normal saline) was 304.9±24.2 and 63.4±11.6 (minutes), respectively. The results showed that Curculigo could significantly prolong sleep time (P<0.001).

2. Effect on the convulsive effect of picrotoxin: 30 minutes after the intraperitoneal injection of Curculigo orchioides to mice, 200 mg/kg of picrotoxin was injected intraperitoneally, and the latency time of clonic convulsion in mice was recorded. The results showed that the latency time of convulsion in the Curculigo group and the control group was 24.38±3.78 and 7.57±0.63 minutes, respectively, and the difference between the two groups was very significant (P<0.001). This indicates that Curculigo can significantly delay the latency period of convulsions in mice induced by picrotoxin.

3. The alkali contained in Curculigo can significantly prolong the latency of conditioned reflex when injected intraperitoneally at 5 mg/kg into rats, causing partial disappearance of positive conditioned reflex and then recovery. Injection of 2 mg/kg into mice has a significant sedative effect. A dose of 12 mg/kg can prolong the hypnotic time of pentobarbital and has significant analgesic and antipyretic effects.

Effects on the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis

1. Effect on pituitary-ovarian endocrine function of normal rats: 35 normal female rats, weighing 150-200g, were randomly divided into 8 groups: Curculigo group, Cuscuta group, Morinda officinalis group, Rehmannia glutinosa group, Cistanche group, Epimedium group, Lycium barbarum group and control group. The drug group (decoction) was administered by oral gavage at 1 ml/100 g body weight, twice a day for 5 consecutive days. The control group was intragastrically administered with the same amount of normal saline. On the 6th day, the animals were treated and 1 ml of blood was collected from the abdominal aorta under sodium pentobarbital anesthesia. The plasma was separated and retained for the determination of plasma luteinizing hormone (LH). The anterior pituitary gland, uterus and ovaries were removed and weighed. The ovaries were immediately placed in ice-cold Tris-HCl buffer for the determination of chorionic gonadotropin/luteinizing hormone receptors. The results showed that Curculigo and other yang-boosting and kidney-tonifying Chinese medicines can significantly increase the weight of the anterior pituitary, ovary and uterus of rats compared with the control group (P<0.01); but the level of luteinizing hormone in plasma did not change; the specific binding capacity of ovarian chorionic gonadotropin/luteinizing hormone receptor in the medication group was also significantly increased compared with the control group (P<0.01).

Now everyone should know the various effects and functions of Curculigo, as well as its utilization value. Curculigo is widely used and has very good medical effects on many diseases. It is also regarded as a treasure by many doctors. Many of the principles of using Curculigo to treat diseases come from scientific experiments, so you can rest assured to utilize the value of Curculigo.
