Pharmacology of Strawberry Saxifrage

Pharmacology of Strawberry Saxifrage

Strawberry Saxifrage is a perennial herb with slender runners densely covered with curly glandular hairs and scaly leaves. Saxifrage leaves contain bergenin, quercetin, quercetin, gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, succinic acid and methylfumaric acid. The stems contain catechol. The roots contain volatile oils. In addition, arbutin, chlorogenic acid, quercetin-5-O-glucoside, norbergenin, amino acids, potassium nitrate and potassium chloride were also isolated from Saxifraga. The whole plant is used as medicine; slightly bitter, pungent, cold, and slightly toxic; it dispels wind and heat, cools blood and detoxifies.

1. Cardiotonic effect: Adding 0.01 ml of fresh juice filtrate or 1:1 ethanol extract of Saxifrage to isolated frog hearts showed a certain cardiotonic effect. The extract still has an excitatory effect on the heart after decalcification, but it is weaker than before decalcification. The cardiotonic effect of this product is slowly converted into calcium chloride and lasts for a long time.

2. Diuretic effect: Anesthetized dogs and conscious rabbits were intravenously injected with 1 ml/kg of ethanol extract of Saxifraga, which showed a significant diuretic effect. After the glycosides contained in the extract are destroyed, it still has a certain diuretic effect.

3. Other effects: No antibacterial effect of fresh Saxifrage juice on Staphylococcus and Streptococcus was found in in vitro tests.

4. Toxicity: Rabbits were given 35 ml/kg of fresh juice by gavage, and no adverse reaction was observed after 24 hours. The administration of 60 ml/kg was repeated on the second day and observed for 3 days, and no adverse reaction was observed.

Strawberry Saxifrage can dispel dampness and reduce swelling, cool blood and stop bleeding, clear away heat and detoxify, and treat traumatic bleeding, acute and chronic otitis media. It can also treat diseases such as urticaria, urticaria itching, whooping cough, hemorrhoids, etc. Here we remind you that if you have the above diseases, you should go to a regular hospital and follow the doctor's instructions. Never take medicine indiscriminately on your own.
