The traditional Chinese medicine Tangut Qinglan is a very good Chinese medicinal material. It has a very good effect in regulating the body and is also widely used in medicine. Let’s take a look together.

[Alias] Zhiyang Gu (hidden name)

[Source] It is the whole herb with roots of Tangut Qinglan, a plant of the Lamiaceae family. Harvest from July to August. Remove dirt and leaf residues and let dry.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 20 to 30 cm high. The rhizome is short, with many fibrous roots, dark brown. The stem is branched at the base, square, with 4 longitudinal ridges, green and purple-red in color, and sparsely covered with white soft hairs. The leaves are opposite and have short petioles; the leaf blades are deeply pinnate, with the lobes linear-lanceolate, green above and pinkish green below. Flowers are terminal or whorled in leaf axils, arranged in spikes; bracts are leaf-like, often shorter than the calyx tube; calyx is tubular, 5-lobed, and the lobes are lanceolate; corolla is lip-shaped, blue-purple, with the upper lip arched and notched, the lower lip 3-lobed, and the middle lobe notched or deeply divided; 4 stamens. Nutlets smooth. Flowering period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Grown on hillsides, stream banks, field edges, etc. Distributed in Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, Tibet and other places.

[Chemical composition] Contains flavonoids, volatile oils, amino acids, steroids, while phenolic compounds show no obvious reaction.

【Functions and indications】 ① "Commonly used Chinese herbal medicines in Tibet": "Harmonizes the stomach and soothes the liver. Treats gastritis, ulcers, hepatitis, and hepatomegaly. It is good for diuresis."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian.

[Clinical Application] For the treatment of chronic bronchitis, Tangut Qinglan is made into tablets and taken twice a day, 5 tablets each time, after meals (the daily dose is equivalent to 3 cents of the original medicine). 26 cases were treated, 1 was under control in the short term, 1 was significantly effective, 11 improved, and 13 were ineffective. There are certain side effects during medication, which manifest themselves in the nervous system and digestive system. They are generally not serious, and only a few cases require medication discontinuation due to side effects.
