[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Staphylea bumalda DC., a plant of the Staphylea bumalda family.

[Original form] Shengguyou is a deciduous shrub, 2-5m tall. The bark is purple-red or gray-brown with longitudinal ridges. The branches are green and white. Trifoliate leaves are opposite; petiole is 2.5-8cm long; with early-falling stipules; there are 3 leaflets, the middle petiole is 5-10mm long, and the petioles on both sides are 1-2mm long; the leaf blade is elliptical, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 3-8cm long, 2-5cm wide, with a sharp tip and a pointed tail, a cuneate or rounded base, finely serrated on the edge, with pointed tips, glabrous above, bluish-white below; the main veins and lateral veins have short hairs. The flowers are bisexual, with terminal panicles that are erect; sepals are oblong, light yellow-white; there are 5 petals, which are white, obovate-oblong, slightly larger than sepals, and 5-7mm long; there are 5 stamens, which are slightly the same length as the petals; there are 2 carpels, the ovary is coarsely hairy, and there are 2 styles. The capsule is flat, 2-chambered, 2-cleft at the apex, and the pericarp is membranous with transverse stripes. The seeds are round, flat, yellow and shiny. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is August-September.
