[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems, leaves or roots of the plant Agave sphenanthera of the Vitaceae family.

[Original morphology] The woody vine of the Viburnum glabrous is completely hairless. Tendrils are up to 8 cm long, dichotomously branched, and opposite to the leaves. The leaves are bipinnate, 7-17cm long, the leaves at the top of the branches are monopinnate, the lowest pinna has 3 leaflets, occasionally 5; the petiole is 1.5-3cm long; the leaflets are papery, oblong-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 2-5cm long, 1-2cm wide, with acuminate tip and broad cuneate base. The terminal leaflets are petiolate, while the lateral leaflets are sessile, slightly oblique, with sparse teeth or small teeth on the margins; there are about 4 pairs of pinnate veins. The flowers are bisexual, with cymes opposite the leaves or growing at the top of the twigs, 3-5cm long, and peduncle 1-3cm long; the flowers are green, with bracts at the base; the calyx is disc-shaped; there are 5 petals; 5 stamens; opposite the petals; the disk is thick; the ovary is fused with the petals and has a style. The berries are nearly spherical, about 7mm in diameter, green when young and then turn red.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in mountain thickets, forests, rocks and ditches at an altitude of 400-1300m.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; promotes the flow of dampness and reduces swelling. It is mainly used for colds and fever; sore throat; jaundice hepatitis; red and swollen eyes; carbuncle, sore and furuncle

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 15-30g, double the amount for fresh product. For external use: take appropriate amount and wash with decoction.
