[Source] The whole herb of the Cyperus rotundus plant. Harvest from July to September.

[Original form] Stout, upright, bare, perennial herb. The culms are sparsely clustered, 20 to 60 cm high, sharply triangular in shape, and swollen at the base. The leaves are shorter than the stalks, linear-lanceolate, 0.3-0.5 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, often folded at the bottom, green above, light green below, and the leaf sheaths are brown or reddish brown. There are 5 to 8 leaf-like bracts below the inflorescence, which are green, slightly spongy, and usually longer than the inflorescence; the long lateral cymes are simple, with 6 to 12 or more radiating branches of varying lengths; the spike inflorescence is cylindrical or oblong, with many densely growing spikelets, which are flat or slightly drooping, linear-lanceolate, and most of them are gathered at the top of the umbel to form a radial round head inflorescence; the scales are membranous, light yellow or greenish white. The nuts are narrowly oblong or triangular. Heading period: summer and autumn.

[Habitat distribution] It grows mostly in fields and grass on hillsides. Distributed in Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Tibet and other places.

[Nature and flavor] Neutral in nature, bitter and spicy in taste.

【Functions and indications】Relieves cough and resolves phlegm, promotes lung function and relieves exterior symptoms. Treats colds, coughs and sputum.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian.
