[Original form] Perennial herb. The rhizome is horizontal, slender and spindle-shaped, 1.5 to 2.5 cm long. The leaves are trifoliate, basal, and elongated after flowering. The petiole is 10 to 15 cm long. The leaflets are 3-lobed to the middle, the lobes are obovate, 3-lobed or notched, obtuse at the apex, cuneate at the base, and smooth and glabrous on both sides. The flower stalk is longer than the leaves, with 3 leaf-like bracts; the bracts are deeply lobed into 3 parts, with short petioles, the lobes are elliptical, 1.5-3.5 cm long and 5-15 mm wide; the flowers are solitary, terminal, white, and about 3 cm in diameter; the calyx is petal-shaped: oblong, 10-16 pieces, smooth or covered with fine hairs, with a slight purple halo on the outside; there are many stamens; there are many pistils, and the achenes are covered with fine hairs. Flowering period is from April to May. The fruiting period is from May to June.

[Habitat distribution] Grown under mountain forests. Distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi and other places. It is mainly produced in Jilin and Shandong. In addition, it is also produced in Liaoning, Heilongjiang and other places.

[Properties] Dry rhizome, long spindle-shaped, slightly curved, thicker at one end, 0.8 to 3 cm long and 2 to 7 mm in diameter. The surface is brown to tan, with nodes and slightly raised branches. It is hard and brittle, easy to break, with a slightly flat cross section, brown-black edges, yellow-white in the middle, powdery, or light brown horny. Odorless, tastes light at first and slightly spicy later. The best ones are those with thick strips, white cross-section, sufficient powder and firm texture.
