[Source] It is the whole herb of Salvia chinensis Benth., a plant of the Lamiaceae family . Harvest in autumn when it blooms and sun-dry.

[Original form] Annual herb, 20 to 70 cm tall. The stem is square, simple or branched, purple-brown or green in color, and covered with soft hairs. The leaves are opposite, all simple or trifoliate at the bottom of the stem, ovate or ovate-elliptical, 1.3 to 7 cm long, with rounded edges. The cyme has 6 flowers, gathered in a pseudoraceme or panicle; the calyx is bell-shaped and purple; the corolla is blue-purple or purple, covered with long soft hairs; there are 2 stamens, short filaments, and long connectives; the ovary is 4-lobed, and the style is attached to the bottom of the ovary. The nutlets are oval-ovate and brown. The flowering period is from July to August, and the fruiting period is from September to October.
