【Functions and indications】 Clears heat, improves eyesight, and detoxifies. It is used to treat red eyes due to wind-heat, amblyopia, cataract, pulmonary tuberculosis and vomiting blood, red and swollen larynx, jaundice, constipation, and heat-toxic sores.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water for 1 to 2 fen; boil into paste to make pills or dry and grind into powder to make capsules. For external use: eye drops, application or enema.

[Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of leucoderma, red eyes and tearing, inability to approach light, and all sudden red eye diseases: use a castrate goat's gallbladder, add honey into it and steam it, wait until it is dry, and grind it into a paste. [Clinical application] Treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis: different dosage forms such as liquid, pills and capsules. Liquid preparation: Tie the gallbladder opening of fresh sheep bile with thread (if there is too much bile, squeeze out some so that it can be swallowed in one mouthful), wash it with clean water, steam it in hot water for 1 to 2 hours, and swallow it on an empty stomach in the morning or before going to bed. 1 per day. If it is difficult to swallow the whole pill, you can take the bile in several doses and eat some cakes after taking it. Pills: Put fresh bile in a casserole, simmer it over low heat until it becomes a fluid extract, then add an equal amount of lactose and mix well. Make pills of 0.5 or 1 gram in weight and place them in a lime jar to continue drying. Capsules (powder): Place the boiled fluid extract in an oven to dry, grind into powder, and put into capsules; or add preservatives to fresh sheep bile, evaporate and concentrate in a water bath, place in an oven below 120℃ for 2 hours, move to a dehumidifier to cool, and then grind into powder. Dosage: Generally, 1 to 1.2 grams of dried sheep gall powder is used daily, taken all at once or divided into 2 to 3 doses. A total of 54 cases were treated in Zhejiang Province, 51 of whom took the medicine for 3 months and 3 for 6 months. Results The lesions were absorbed and improved in 34 cases, remained unchanged in 20 cases, and no lesion spread or worsened in any case. It is preliminarily believed that the effect is satisfactory for early infiltrative lesions; although there is a certain effect on chronic fibrocavitary pulmonary tuberculosis, the improvement of lesions is not significant enough; it is effective for bronchial tuberculosis if it is early submucosal infiltration, but the effect is not satisfactory for chronic fibrocavitary pulmonary tuberculosis combined with bronchial tuberculosis and severe lesions; it often shows its special effect on those who have not responded to long-term anti-tuberculosis drugs. During the treatment, some patients may experience mild diarrhea (2 to 7 times/day), abdominal pain, or dry mouth, throat irritation, stomach burning sensation, etc. 3 to 15 days after taking the medicine. For symptoms of dry mouth and stomach irritation, you can increase the amount of water you drink. For diarrhea, you can increase the amount of fat or use cod liver oil, which can gradually eliminate or alleviate the symptoms. If diarrhea still occurs, you can grind 1.5 fen each of light Evodia rutaecarpa, Guangmuxiang, and wine-fried Chuanlian into powder and swallow it 3 times a day. After taking 1 to 2 times, the diarrhea can be alleviated or stopped. Other experiences suggest that consuming spicy or cold foods while taking medication can easily cause severe stomach pain and vomiting, so you must be careful.
