[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuberous root of Aconitum truncatum of the Ranunculaceae family.

[Original form] Aconitum carmichaelii, perennial herb, 40-65cm tall. The tuber is inverted conical, 2.3-3.6cm long and 9-11mm in diameter, or nearly cylindrical, about 7cm long and 5mm in diameter. Stem erect, glabrous. Leaves are alternate, the leaves at the bottom of the stem wither when flowering, the leaves in the middle of the stem have short petioles, are 2.2-3cm long, and are glabrous; the leaf blades are pentagonal, sometimes rounded, 5.5-9cm long, 8-10cm wide, the base is cordate, sometimes rounded, 3 deeply divided to 1.5-2cm from the base, the central deep lobe is ovate-rhombus-shaped, long and gradually pointed, with sparse triangular teeth on the edges, and obvious reticulation. The leaves at the top of the stem are small, 3-lobed or almost unlobed, and glabrous. Inflorescence with 1-6 flowers, inflorescence axis and pedicel are glabrous; pedicel about 1cm long, bracteoles lanceolate or lanceolate-linear, 3-8mm long, almost glabrous; flowers bisexual, bilaterally symmetrical, upper sepal cylindrical helmet-shaped or high helmet-shaped, 2.4-3.2cm high, glabrous, lower edge slightly concave, 1.5-2.4cm long, blue, glabrous; petals 2, clawed, lobes large, lip about 6mm long, spur 5-7mm long, curved backwards, glabrous; stamens numerous, filaments with 2 small teeth or entire, glabrous; carpels 3, glabrous. Follicles, 1.6-1.8cm long. Seeds are numerous, inverted conical-triangular, about 2 mm long, with membranous wings on only one side. The flowering period is from September to October, and the fruiting period is from October to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on cliffs or in forests in valleys at an altitude of 1600-2300m.

[Properties] Sex is the most important factor for identification. The mother root is conical, about 2 cm long and 1 cm in diameter; the surface is dark brown with transverse wrinkles and longitudinal grooves. The sub-root is cylindrical, 2.5-3cm long and about 0.5cm in diameter; there are fine longitudinal wrinkles and root fibrous marks on the surface.
