If you stand within the safety white line, will you really be sucked into the track?

Imagine a train whizzing by, the wind it creates seems to sweep everything into its path.

On the platform, the eye-catching white safety line seems to be the only barrier between you and danger.

Have you ever been waiting for a train and had a flash of doubt in your mind:

If you stand too close to the edge, will you be pulled into orbit by the powerful suction?

Today we are going to uncover this secret that makes people both curious and frightened.

If you stand within the safety white line, you will be "sucked" into the track by the train.

Is this alarmist talk or scientific truth?

Zhejiang Science Popularization Federation launched a series of short videos on science popularization and public welfare, "Reliable"

The eleventh issue reveals the secrets of the platform safety line!

Let's do an experiment to find out

Will you be sucked into the track if you stand within the safety white line?

Science experiment session

The public welfare anchor of Ke Xiaoer, Cation, came to Ye Qianyu Jianlan Middle School in Tonglu County, where science teacher Fang Hanbing brought us a fun little experiment. He prepared a tube, a ping-pong ball and a hair dryer.

In the experiment, he simulated the tube as the train track of the high-speed train, the hair dryer as the strong airflow generated by the passing of the high-speed train, and the ping-pong ball as the passengers standing beside the track.

When Teacher Fang turned on the hair dryer,

Guess what magical phenomenon happened?

Through this experiment, we can see very intuitively that the ping-pong ball was instantly sucked into the tube! This means that if a person stands in the strong airflow generated by the high-speed train passing by, he will also be sucked in immediately.

Scientific Principles Revealed

According to the principles of air fluid mechanics , when a high-speed train runs at high speed, the air velocity around it increases, and the faster the velocity, the lower the pressure. This means that the air pressure around the high-speed train decreases, while the air pressure outside the human body is relatively large, thus forming a pressure difference . This pressure difference will generate a force that pushes people toward the high-speed train, especially when the high-speed train passes by, this force may suck people into the rails, causing danger.

The results of the experiment remind us that a small ping-pong ball can be sucked into the strong airflow, not to mention a person. Therefore, when you take the high-speed train or subway in the future, you must stand outside the white safety line when waiting for the train! To avoid irreversible serious consequences.

Safety is no small matter. Let us abide by the rules together to ensure that every trip is safe and smooth!
