[Popular Science on Hot Fruits] Passion fruit has 100 kinds of aromas. How to open and enjoy it correctly?

Where does passion fruit grow? Why is it called passion fruit? What flavors are there in "passion fruit"?

Passion fruit is native to South America and is a plant of the genus Passiflora in the family Passiflora. When we see passion fruit, it usually grows on trees. The first impression is that it is a tree, but in fact it is a herbaceous vine. It can not only climb on trees, but also crawl on the ground. In order to facilitate picking, farmers usually build a stand for it.

Passion fruit is ellipsoidal in shape, similar to an egg. Its Chinese name is "egg fruit" and its English name is passion fruit. Of course, it has another more well-known name - passion fruit. The origin of this name is because it exudes the aroma of various fruits, such as pomegranate, mango, banana, pineapple, strawberry, lemon and other different flavors. It is also known as the "spice fruit". It is not only delicious and sweet, but also rich in nutritional value, such as vitamin C, potassium and dietary fiber.

In order to distinguish it from another fruit on the market, the egg yolk fruit (also called the egg fruit), the locals began to call it "passion fruit". In this way, we can more accurately distinguish these two completely different fruits.

When tasting passion fruit, in addition to eating it directly by cutting it, there are other ways to eat it that can make its taste more unique and delicious.

The first way to eat it is to cut it directly, add an appropriate amount of salt and stir it evenly. This will not only make the taste more layered, but also highlight the aroma and sweet and sour taste of passion fruit. Be careful not to stir too hard to prevent the flesh from being crushed.

In addition to eating directly by cutting, you can also dig out the passion fruit pulp and mix it with kumquats, lemons or honey to make various cold drinks. These cold drinks are not only refreshing but also rich in nutrients. Especially in the hot summer, a cup of such cold drinks is definitely a pleasure.

The last way to eat it is to use passion fruit as a seasoning for the main dish, such as with ribs, tilapia and other meat ingredients. This not only increases the flavor of the dish, but also makes the meat more delicious.
