Not long ago, a piece of news about AI fraud became a hot topic on Weibo.

According to media reports, when Mr. Guo, the legal representative of a technology company in Fuzhou, was video chatting with a friend, the other party "borrowed" 4.3 million yuan from him on the pretext of borrowing an account to transfer money. But Mr. Guo later found out that the person video chatting with him at the time was not his friend at all, but a fraudster who used AI face-changing and voice-onomatopoeia technology to forge it.

In fact, Mr. Guo is not the first victim of AI fraud.

As early as April 2021, a senior executive of a Shanghai company was defrauded of 1.5 million yuan due to the AI ​​face-changing and voice-onomatopoeia technology used by the scammers; in February 2022, Mr. Chen from Wenzhou was also defrauded of nearly 50,000 yuan due to similar fraudulent means...

In this regard, the Changde Internet Police Patrol once released a message: AI technology has changed fraud, and after the new scam came, the success rate of fraud was close to 100%.

What is AI fraud?

Simply put, it is a new type of fraud carried out by scammers using AI face-changing technology and AI voice-onomatopoeia technology. Its characteristics are strong concealment, high degree of realism, and difficulty in tracing.

In fact, the implementation process of AI fraud is usually divided into the following steps:

First, collect the name, phone number, photos, videos and other information of the target and his/her relatives and friends through various social platforms;

Using AI technology, the scammers replaced their own faces with those of the target’s relatives and friends, and also used onomatopoeia technology to replace their voices;

Contact the target through WeChat video and other means, and gain their trust by posing as their relatives or friends;

After inducing the target to transfer money with various reasons, cut off contact with the target.

How to prevent AI fraud?
