How does the Grand Canal, Beijing-Hangzhou, carry half of the history of Chinese civilization?

When "Dream of Splendor" was aired, many people were captured by the warm and funny plot, or were obsessed with the beautiful scenery in the play.

It could be a beautiful view or a beautiful woman.

There are a lot of scenes about "water" in the play. It turns out that the director designed to use "water" to connect the entire plot.

The heroine Zhao Pan'er not only runs a teahouse by the water in her hometown Qiantang (Hangzhou), washing tea sets in the lake every day, but also when she goes north to Tokyo (Kaifeng, Henan), she prefers to take the water route by renting a cargo ship because she is in a hurry.

This waterway carries many of the emotional scenes between the male and female protagonists, and also showcases the daily life of people at that time.

A slightly later version of the Grand Canal in the Yuan Dynasty than in the drama

The waterway in the play, which is the river running through Hangzhou and Kaifeng in the map, is now called the "Grand Canal". For thousands of years, people have relied on it for their lives, and politics and trade have revolved around it.

The Grand Canal began in the Spring and Autumn Period, was formed in the Sui Dynasty, developed in the Tang and Song Dynasties, and finally became an important waterway connecting the five major water systems of Haihe River, Yellow River, Yangtze River and Qiantang River in the Yuan Dynasty, spanning the north and south.

It can be said that the history of the canal is half the history of Chinese civilization.
