Normally, fish will not be pricked by their own fish bones. There is a layer of connective tissue wrapped around the tip of the small bone, which acts as a shield to prevent the muscles from being pricked. However, because we usually eat fish cooked, the connective tissue and the fish meat are integrated, so this layer of connective tissue cannot be seen. In addition, the fish does not move drastically in the water, but only swings its tail gently. The small swing and the protection of the connective tissue will naturally prevent the muscles from being pricked. Of course, if the fish is thrown onto the shore and allowed to jump around, the impact of the fish bones will exceed the connective tissue's ability to withstand, and the muscles will also be pricked.
