Ministry of Commerce: China's Online Retail Market Development Report 2022

In 2022, the national online retail sales reached 13.79 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4%, overcoming the impact of the epidemic and maintaining a growth trend; the online retail sales of physical goods reached 11.96 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%, accounting for 27.2% of the total retail sales of consumer goods, an increase of 2.7 percentage points from the previous year, and the role of stimulating consumption has become more apparent.

In 2023, the national B2C online retail sales increased by 5.6% year-on-year, accounting for 79.4% of online retail sales; C2C online retail sales decreased by 0.6% year-on-year, accounting for 20.6% of online retail sales; by region, the year-on-year growth rates of online retail sales in the eastern, central, western and northeastern regions were 3.8%, 8.7%, 3.0% and 13.2% respectively, accounting for 83.9%, 8.9%, 5.7% and 1.5% of the national total respectively.

Business big data monitoring shows that in terms of origin, the cross-border import volume of goods originating from Japan, the United States and South Korea ranked the top three, accounting for 29.3% of the total cross-border online retail import volume; in terms of import categories, the cross-border import volume of cosmetics, grain and oil food, and clothing, shoes, hats and knitted textiles ranked the top three, accounting for 72.9% of the total cross-border online retail import volume.
