Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs: 2021 National County Digital Agriculture and Rural E-commerce Development Report

The report shows that in 2020, the online retail sales of 2083 counties across the country reached 3,530.32 billion yuan, an increase of 14.0% over the previous year, accounting for 30.0% of the national online retail sales, an increase of 0.9 percentage points. Among them, the online retail sales of agricultural products in counties reached 350.76 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 29.0%.

The report believes that during the 2020 COVID-19 epidemic, rural e-commerce, with its advantages of online, contactless, rapid matching of supply and demand, and efficient connection between production and sales, has highlighted its functional role in stabilizing production and supply, resuming work and production, and ensuring people's livelihood in counties. New business forms and models such as live streaming and community group buying have continued to emerge, and cross-border e-commerce has opened the door for counties to integrate into the international market.

The report pointed out that 2021 is the first year of implementing the "14th Five-Year Plan". The comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization will provide a broader stage for the development of county e-commerce. The huge potential of rural e-commerce will be accelerated. The transformation of digital lifestyle and consumption patterns will reshape the county rural market. The innovative development of e-commerce will help the digital transformation of agriculture and rural areas enter the fast lane. County e-commerce will also provide new impetus for building a new development pattern with the domestic circulation as the main body and the domestic and international circulations mutually promoting each other.
