Bronto: Survey shows that 3/10 male netizens shop online every week vs. only 18% of females

People have the impression that girls like online shopping more than boys, but a survey by Bronto Software in January 2015 overturned this stereotype, with men clicking the "buy" button more often than women.

Three in ten male digital buyers in the U.S. say they shop online every week, compared to only one in five female digital buyers. Four in ten women shop online occasionally, and the proportion of male buyers who shop online every month is also higher than that of female buyers, at 62% vs. 58% respectively.

This year, men are at the top. However, according to Bronto, in 2014, the proportion of men and women who frequently shop online was relatively even, both around 25%; 4/10 men shop online occasionally, while women account for 41%; the proportion of female digital buyers who shop online every month is slightly higher than that of men.

A December 2014 Ipsos Public Affairs survey found that men are more enthusiastic about the holiday shopping season than women: 31% of American male Internet users purchased items online on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, compared to only 28% of women.

Men are also more enthusiastic about mobile shopping than women. According to a survey conducted by Harris Poll for the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) in November 2014, 35% of American adult male smartphone users spend more than $51 per month on their phones, compared to 20% of women. At the same time, 55% of women have never purchased anything with their phones, compared to only 44% of men.
