The plant height is 50-100cm. The rhizome is horizontal, 8-10mm thick, fleshy, with dense lanceolate scales on the top, broadly ovate base, shield-shaped pattern, long and gradually pointed at the tip into a tail shape, and eyelashes on the edge. Leaves are dimorphic; nutrient leaves are sessile; leaves are thick, papery, hard, glabrous and shiny on both sides, cordate to ovate, almost equal in length and width, obtuse or rounded at the apex, shallowly cordate at the base with overlapping ears, entire or wavy; leaf veins are obvious on both sides, and the veinlets are connected into elongated meshes. The petiole of the spore leaf is 10-30cm long, shiny and glabrous, with scales at the base. The petiole is ovate-oblong, 30-70cm long, 20-30cm wide, and deeply pinnately lobed almost to the rachis; the lobes are 3-7 pairs, obliquely upward, notched and rounded to truncate, with small spines at the base. Broadly lanceolate, with long and gradually pointed apex, slightly narrow and decurrent at the base, with cartilaginous margins at the edges, and the terminal lobes are larger; the leaves are dark in color, with straw-colored midribs and obvious lateral veins. The sori are small, round, and scattered between the lateral veins; there is no sori cover.
