[Source] It is the whole herb of Siegesbeckia glandularis, Siegesbeckia scoparia or Siegesbeckia hairy, plants of the Asteraceae family . Cut the whole herb before flowering in summer, remove impurities, dry it in the sun until it is half dry, and then place it in a ventilated place to dry.

【Original morphology】 ① Siegesbeckia adenophora

[Habitat distribution] It is mainly produced in central and northern my country. The production is relatively large in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and other places.

[Properties] The whole plant is dried, the stem is square columnar, slightly quadrangular, with the sides sunken into longitudinal grooves, gray-green to gray-brown, sometimes with purple-brown, covered with gray-white soft hairs. The branches are opposite, with ring-shaped scars of petioles on them, forming obvious nodes. It is light and brittle, easy to break, and has white pith on the cross section. The leaves are opposite, mostly broken and incomplete, gray-green, with gray-white soft hairs on both the upper and lower sides, and are papery and brittle. Yellow inflorescence heads can sometimes be seen at the top of the stem or in the leaf axils, with a spoon-shaped involucre on the outside, and dot-like glandular hairs can be seen on the involucre. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste. The best ones are those with thick stems, many leaves, unopened flowers and gray-green color.

[Chemical composition] Siegesbeckia glandulosa contains bitter substances and bioalkali.

【Pharmacological action】 ① Anti-inflammatory effect

[Preparation] Siegesbeckia: Pick out impurities, remove residual roots and old stems, shake off the leaves and put them separately, wash the stems, soak them in water, take them out, moisten them thoroughly, cut them into sections, dry them, and then mix them with the leaves. To prepare Siegesbeckia sibiricum: clean Siegesbeckia sibiricum segments and mix them with rice wine (one method is to melt honey and an equal amount of rice wine and mix them evenly). After the wine is absorbed, place it in a steamer and steam it. Take it out and dry it in the sun until it is half dry, and then steam it until it turns black. (For every 100 jin of Siegesbeckia sibiricum, use 20 jin of rice wine)

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cold.

[entry into meridians] Enters the liver, spleen and kidney meridians.

【Functions and indications】Relieve rheumatism, strengthen tendons and bones, and lower blood pressure. Treat paralysis of the limbs, pain in the muscles and bones, weakness of the waist and knees, malaria, acute hepatitis, hypertension, furunculosis, and bleeding from trauma.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-4 qian (1-2 liang for large dose); mashed into juice or made into pills or powder. For external use: mash and apply, grind into powder and sprinkle or decoct in water for fumigation and washing.

【Note】 Those with insufficient Yin-blood should avoid taking this medicine.

[Additional prescription] ① Treats arthralgia caused by wind, cold and dampness, which results in blood stasis, numbness of limbs, soreness of waist and knees, dry and hard stools. Regardless of gout, painful arthralgia, damp phlegm, or wind-heat, it is suitable for long-term use to prevent stroke and paralysis: Take any amount of Siegesbeckia officinalis, remove the stems and take the leaves, dry them in the sun, mix them with old wine, steam them, dry them in the sun, mix them again and steam them again, repeat this method nine times. Dry in the sun, grind into fine powder, store and use, make into honey pills, four or five cents of which are taken with warm wine on an empty stomach in the morning. 【Explanations by various scholars】 ① "Compendium of Materia Medica": "When the juice of Siegesbeckia sibiricum is taken raw, it causes vomiting, so it is said to be slightly poisonous; when steamed and boiled nine times, it nourishes the body and removes numbness, so it is said to be non-toxic. It is cold in nature when raw, and warm in nature when cooked, so those who say it is hot are wrong."

[Clinical application] Treatment of malaria: Take 1-1.5 liang of dried Siegesbeckia sibiricum, decoct and take twice a day for 2-3 days. Children decrease. A total of 63 cases were clinically observed, and the results showed that 55 cases had their symptoms controlled (23 cases were controlled on the same day, 24 cases were controlled the next day, and 8 cases were controlled on the 3rd day), and 8 cases were ineffective. The effective rate is 87.3%. However, there were 5 cases of recurrence.

[Remarks] In addition, in Guangdong and Guangxi, the whole herb of the Labiatae plant Parsnips is used as Siegesbeckia. See "Parsnip". In Yunnan, the whole herb of the Lamiaceae plant, Polygonum multiflorum (also known as fragrant sedge), is used as siegeweed.
