[Original form] Short cone climbing woody vine. The branches are slender, hard, and have wart-like protrusions at the bottom. Leaves are alternate; petioles are slender, 7-20cm long; leaf blades are papery to thinly leathery, elliptic, narrowly elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, 7.5-9cm long, 3-4cm wide, apex caudate-acuminate, base cuneate, with 5-7 veins, obviously convex beneath, and the uppermost pair of free-bases emanating from the midrib. The inflorescence is short, nearly spherical, opposite to the leaves at the top of the twigs, with a diameter of 2.5-3mm, which prolongs and increases in size during the fruiting period; the flowers are bisexual; the bracts are round, about 1mm in diameter; there are 2 stamens, the ovary is obovate, the stigmas are 3-4, and the infructescence is oblong-spherical; the berry is obovate, the base is embedded in the inflorescence axis, the top has 3-4 angles, and the diameter is about 2.5mm. Flowering period is from May to July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in valley forests, stream banks or hillsides.

[Properties] Identification by properties: The stems and branches are twisted, slender, with wart-like protrusions at the bottom, and are hard in texture. The leaves are mostly wrinkled, and when flattened, they are elliptical or ovate-lanceolate, 7-9cm long, 2-4cm wide, with a caudate-acuminate and often oblique tip, with veins clearly prominent on the back, 5-7 lateral veins, the uppermost pair of which radiate from the midrib, and the reticulate veins are obvious; they have petioles and sheaths. Often with nearly spherical inflorescences with hairy rachis. Fragrant smell, spicy taste.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and cold; disperse blood stasis and relieve pain; reduce swelling and detoxify. It is mainly used for rheumatic pain, numbness of limbs, exogenous wind-cold, wheezing and coughing, cold pain in the abdomen, traumatic injury, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain, toothache, swelling and pain of sores, burns, and snake and insect bites.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-10g; or soaked in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
