[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of purple butterfly grass of the Scrophulariaceae family.

[Original form] Purple butterfly grass is an annual herb, 10-40cm tall. The stem is erect, square, sometimes with many branches at the base and scattered, and the stem and leaves are sparsely covered with stiff hairs. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 0.5-2cm long; leaf blade is ovate or oblong, 2-4cm long, gradually pointed at the apex, obtuse at the base, truncated at the tip, and with blunt teeth on the margin. Umbel is terminal or lateral, with 2-4 flowers, lateral flowers often degenerate into a single flower; no peduncle; pedicel about 1.5cm long, up to 3cm in fruiting period, calyx oblong, acute at base, with 5 wings, wings 2-3mm wide in fruiting period, curved into purple-red, calyx teeth slightly lip-shaped; corolla light blue or white, up to 2cm long, upper lip 2-lobed, truncate, lower lip 3-lobed; stamens 4; corolla light blue or white, up to 2cm long, upper lip 2-lobed, truncate, lower lip 3-lobed; stamens 4, paired, 2 upper ones inverted, 2 lower ones arched, connected under the upper lip; filament base without appendages. The capsule is enclosed in the persistent calyx. Flowering period: summer and autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in grasslands and sparse woods.
